A new Priest of the Church

Afternoon all,

Just a quick card to share with you all today. Summer means lots of Ordinations to the church and as I have the privilege to know a number of Priests to be through the course of their training, I'm also blessed to get invitations to attend their ordinations also.

I try to make every card unique to the Priest and this year, this was my card. The design isn't mine - it's from an embroidery pattern by Mary Corbet over at needleandtread. The design was printed onto heavy weight watercolour paper and layered. The image was coloured with my really old windsor and newton travel watercolour pallet.

Crafty Catz DT - Anything Goes with a twist of Easter

Morning all

Greetings from....... let me think, i'll be somewhere over South Africa I think when this goes live, heading home.

This weeks challenge for Crafty Catz is my turn to host and ooops! not here, obviously. So a big thanks to Carol and Sue for covering in my absence to make sure it all goes live on time! As always our challenge is Anything Goes and the twist you can add, if you'd like, is to make it an Easter Card

So Easter is kind of a big deal for me, more so even then Christmas. As a Christian it's the chance to start again, face another 12 months renewed, forgiven and hopefully wiser. So with that being said, my card this week is very simply as a reflection of my faith.

I'm get really bored of square cards but finding shaped cards is really hard (please leave suggestions of online companies that stock anything in packs bigger than 5/6.) so i used by sizzix shaped dies to create this card and the background. I used a nellie snellen die for the circle and the cross is a beautiful die by spellbinders, I used woodware punches for the flowers and leaves and used shimmer paper for everything. The design is finished with a few pearls.

Hope you like it, hope you like the challenge. I'll see you all soon. Until next time, happy crafting!

Crafty Catz DT - Stitching Real or Fake

Good Morning all you lovely people,

I can't believe we are at Good Friday already, lent has flown by. Whatever you do today, I hope you are blessed.

Now on to our challenge at Crafty Catz this week. Our theme has been set by the lovely Jac who wants to see Stitching - Real or Fake. We are sponsored this week by the lovely team at Bugaboo who are offering our winner 7 images of their choice

It seems kind of fitting that I was a rebel this week and my offering isn't a papercraft card at all, but rather a fully stitched religious card.

I made this card for a friend's Priestly Ordination. Everything is cut from silk, stitched on a machine with hand embellishments to finish.

Whatever you get up to this Easter weekend I hope its filled with laughter and love. Have a great time!

Until next time, happy crafting

Easter Cards

Evening all

It's been a while since a posted anything that wasn't a DT card so I thought I'd share this years Easter card design.

The central egg design is my own. I sketched a design, cut it out to create a template then drew it onto black card. I then layered the image onto green paper for grass and cut off the excess. I then created the rays by cutting down a rectangle and glue them in place before cutting off the excess, I then backed the piece in blue and cut around the shape again.

I kept the background simple, the white card is embossed with sizzix flourish and swirls and the ribbons and gems are from stash. I mounted the egg on foam squares to add dimension and there we go.

I would like to enter this into the following challenges:

Crafty Sentiments - Any Shape

Ordination Card

Afternoon all,

It's that time of the year again where there's priestly ordination's galore. I've been privileged to witness some of them and that also means that cards of congratulations were required. I hate the mass produced cards, they're boring at best and cheap and nasty at worst - so despite it being a really challenging type of card to make, I went back to the drawing board and drew inspiration as I normally do for ecclesiastical embroidery to create this card.
It's layered to give it some dimension and the whole thing is coloured with Derwent Inktense pencils and finished with pearls for some bling

I would like to enter this card into

Crafty Catz DT - Stitching

Morning all

Here's to another Friday! this weeks challenge at Crafty Catz is set by Christine and she wants to see Stitching (real or faux) on your projects this week. We are sponsored by the amazing team at Bugaboo, who are offering our lucky winner 7 images of their choice

So I figured with a theme like this it was about time I did a non card project and it fell perfectly to coincide with a project I'd been working on for a friend of mine who is a Priest

The pattern is by Lizzie Kate designs and should be available at most retailers who supply cross stitch patterns - it's certainly available all over the internet.

I tweaked the design to add the bottom boarder and carefully matched the thread colours to his chair (as seen on the photo). The cushion I made using a mottled wool and the back is fastened with toggles. I finished each corner with a mother of pearl button.

He loves it (thank goodness) and I've been asked to make another couple in due course for other Priests. They're going to have to wait a while though - my eyes are shot from stitching on linen in poor light!

So there you go, my project this week. Hope you like it and don't forget to swing by and look at the other fab projects on the blog. Until next time - happy crafting!

Crafty Catz DT - Anything Goes

Good Morning!

Wow, we've been having some gorgeous weather of late here in the UK. I hope you've all been able to enjoy some of it. I'm truly blessed that the place I work in has some seriously large grounds and the most incredible flat gardens, so lunch breaks in the sun are a must at the moment. On the down side my museum space is a greenhouse! I honestly think I should start growing pineapples in there!

Anyway. On with this week's challenge which is Anything Goes so let the madness commence! We are sponsored this week by Paper Nest Store
Our Badge
Winner will receive $25 to the Paper Nest Dolls

So my card this week is for a friend of mine who was ordained as a priest last year and in a couple of weeks he will celebrate his first anniversary. I find it really difficult to know what to make as I'm not Catholic and I've never had a close friend whose dedicated their life to the Church so I always worry I'm going to mess up somehow.

That said, I figured that simple is best so here it is:

The background paper is from Kaisercrafts' Madame Boutique range. The design is actually a free template from Needle n' Thread which I mounted onto blue card and cut out again. My hope is one day, in the not to distant future, to actually sew the design up for him too. The image is coloured with Derwent Inktense pencils and finished with a few gold gems.

So there we go. Hope you like it and I really hope he likes it too. But don't forget to swing by the other girls' blogs to see their gorgeous creations and until next time, happy crafting!

He is Risen! Easter Card

Morning!

Well my post title may be a week premature but today is Palm Sunday and Jesus' arrival into Jerusalem has been celebrated - with Holy week upon us and Easter Sunday next week, it seems the perfect time to share my Easter card design for this year.
The image is from Just Inklined and I layered it up 3 times on top of the base image. I coloured it in using my trusty promarkers in; Caramel, Henna, Buttercup, Gold, Pear Green and Moss. The background image is from Heartfelt Creations; Easter Lilies Set, stamped in Pumice Stone, the edge of the card has been accented using Versa Magic: Thatched Straw and the ribbon and gems are from stash.

Thanks for stopping by to look. I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:
