Double challenge card

This card is for two challenges this week: Friday Sketchers and Allsort's

Using this beautiful sketch:

And the challenge to take inspiration from a park or garden I came up with this:

The papers and the ribbon is all from my stash of odds and ends and the image is from Just Inklined. Just like last time I triple layered it and coloured it with promarkers. The circles were kindly sent to me by a friend and I have embossed the larger one with the script folder from cuttlebug.

Creative Inspirations Challenge - Bookmark

Two posts on the same day!  can't you tell its bank holiday weekend!

Creative Inspirations challenged us to make a bookmark this week and with that I knew there was only one stamp to be dug out and played with!

I adore this little fellow, isn't he just the cutest? I cut the shape by hand,covered it in plain brown on either side then covered the alternate sides with the spotty caramel paper. Punched the pink spots out to highlight his ears and coloured the image with promarkers. Added some ribbon and that was everything.

Halloween Hoots!

Mo's challenge this week is all about halloween and I decided instead of making a card this week I'd have a go at this tutorial I happened upon to make a treat door hanger.

It's a bit different, I hope you like it. I had great fun making it. The papers, ribbon and card are all from stash and the image is obviously Mo's coloured with pro-makers and double mounted to give it some depth.

Sketch and Stash Challenge

Sketch and Stash had this really simple but oh so effective sketch for the fortnight:

It was the perfect base to inspire me to use this stunning image from Just Inklined

I have triple layered the image, the base, then the three rose heads and finally the central bud. I've coloured the image with promarkers and then used 3 different papers. The spotty green is matted onto plain dark green paper and then mounted onto the check. The band is double edged punched with my Marther Stewart boarder and finished with pips.

Creative Inspirations Challenge Card

Creative Inspirations had a sketch challenge this week:

So I figured it was the perfect time to use up some paper scraps and finally use one of my Tilda's that I've had coloured for, ooooooh way too long!

Everything is odds and ends floating around in my craft boxes and the image was coloured with pro-markers when I was getting used to playing with them. There really is nothing much else to say except thanks for looking!

Mojo Monday MOJO152

So another Monday has rolled around and so we hail to another Mojo Monday Sketch:

So i've messed around with the dimension's slightly and used my new Just Inklined digi image:

Papers are all from stash, image is coloured with pro-markers, ribbon is an old favourite. I double mounted the bow of the image to give the card some depth and that's about it!

What not to do.... listen to your first aid training!

Ok, so you know you have first aid training when you're younger - probably either through school, a guiding association, or maybe your parent's took the time out to teach you the basics.... you know - what to do if you burn yourself, how to stop a nose bleed, the basic recovery position and probably the most used in your life - how to deal with a sprained.... well anything.

Well i'm here to tell you, don't listen to that inner voice - resist it! or end up doing what I did!

So the saga starts back last Thursday, for those of you keeping up with the blog, you know that's when I went to see the night glow at Bristol Balloon festival. Well the weather had been dicey and so I wore my boots to go up thinking that they were the best option if the ground was uneven and slippy. Well uneven and slippy it was and I turned my ankle on the way home and pushed my foot forward to squash my toes in the end of my boot. Oh well! not the first time i've turned an ankle so as soon as I was home I propped it up, stuck some ice on it and took an anti-inflamatory before going to bed. The next day - all looked fine and I walked to work.

Saturday rolls round and I defy you to know i'd done anything, so I spent the day doing the usual - food shopping, tidying the flat and just being active and by the evening (when I went to the theatre) my foot was mildly aching. Ok, so maybe it wasn't totally fixed. I took another couple of anti-inflamatories and went to the show, on my return home I once again propped it up and put on a cold compress before heading to bed.

Sunday morning and my toes are tingling. Strange but as I moved around the sensation stopped and I assumed i'd trapped a nerve whilst I slept and so I just threw on my boots a second time to go back to the balloon festival. By about half 8 my foot was aching, specifically my toes but there was no bruising, I could move them all and nothing seemed too wrong.

Monday and it's back to work and oh my! I can barely put my right foot down... hmmm strange. Quick trip to the GP and its a hospital referal for an x-ray, only they'd had so many emergancy cases I was in a 5 hour que to get it looked at, so they gave me a referal to come back the following morning at 8 and they ordered me a taxi.

So yesterday morning I went to get it checked out and what had happened? well i've got a stress fracture across the top of my foot! the Dr told me that by listening to my inner first aider and doing what I should had done, i'd actually stopped the bruising coming out which would have indicated on Friday there was a problem, so it was entirely reasonable for me to then proceed to abuse my foot by excessively walking on it!

Thus the moral of the tale is..... don't do what you think you should or you end up doing more damage than good! lol!

All in all though there is nothing to be done, it's just a case of resting it as much as possible, cold compress of an evening and some painkillers during the day. I'm allowed to walk to and from work and around the flat but as little as possible to aid the recovery. I just can't believe something so stupid as turning my ankle has caused so much damage to my foot!

Up, up and away!

Well on Sunday the weather finally cleared up for the Bristol Balloon Festival and they finally ascended! wooh! but before that, there was a fantastic display by the red arrows - they never cease to amaze me!  Well rather than ramble on, I will simply leave you with the photo's - enjoy!

P.S. I got asked last time if these were my photos - answer: yup! I wish I had a better camera (or just my dad's which is what I used on holiday in Egypt) but i'm rather proud of my lickle point and shoot!

Challenge Card and a New Image!

Evening folks!  well, i've just got in from round two of the Balloon Fiesta - the weather finally held off and my work mate and I had a lovely afternoon watching the red arrow display team and finally! after 4 days of trying the balloons managed to take off, nothing quite like it I promise (i'll add some pics when i've got them sorted)

Anyway, onwards with the card. This one is for Charisma who wanted to see us make an easel card

 

Very simple card I know but I didn't want to distract from this fabulous image of Mo's - isn't she just the sweetest? and an absolute gem to colour in! nothing really to report on this card, image is coloured with promarkers, the scalloped oval was donated to me (I'll hazard a guess its from a nesstie set) and the everything else is from stash. The snowflake is a really old woodware punch and I think that's all there is to say

Glow Balloons, Glow!

Ok, so I know i've been kinda doing crafting in fits and starts recently, but I blame it on the rich and varied cultural entertainment Bristol has to offer - for free!

Seriously, my free time seems to have been taken up of late going to festivals and fiestas! at the end of July Bristol put on a weekend of free entertainment known as the Harbourside Festival. It had everything from an international food fair, circus acts, live music, dance stage, dance lessons and a whole lot in-between. Infact there was so much to do that even after 2 days I barely scraped the suface of what that festival had to offer!

And right off the back of that? well it's Bristol Balloon Fiesta! a four day extravaganza dedicated to hot air balloons. Throw in a craft village, a fair-ground and some music in a stunning park and no wonder I'm not getting any crafting done! (or much sleeping for that matter.....). So last night one of my work colleagues, her housemates and myself went to see the night glow at the festival. It's an event where they play a range of well known songs and light up the balloons in sync to the music. It was great!

So instead of sharing a card with you today (I promise there will be some on the way soon) I thought i'd share some photos from last night.

Bye Bye Baby, Goodbye!

Well yet another of the ladies in the team i'm part of is pending maternity leave [that makes 3 of them in 9 months!!] lol!  anyway, I offered to make a good luck/goodbye card - but as she has no idea what they're about to have I wanted to keep it neautral.

I found this a really hard card to make - it's not goodbye as such as she'll be back in 9 months, it's not so much a congratulations card either (I suspect that's another card i'll end up making) so what do you do? Well after much wrestling with ideas, this is what i've come up with:

The images are all coloured with pro-markers, the sentiment is created by me and printed off the computer. Papers and ribbons are all from stash.
